- 1). Ask your wife to try on apparel that she does not wear on a weekly basis. It is likely that many of the items are out of style, or she no longer likes them. Box up and donate these items to a charitable organization to use as a tax deduction.
- 2). Place items that need repairing into a plastic tub, such as clothes that need alterations, zipper or button repair or a pair of beloved shoes that simply need a new heel tap. Once the organization is complete, take these items to an alteration store, the dry cleaners or to a shoe repair shop.
- 3). Toss out any clothing that is stained or is beyond repair.
- 4). Install closet organizers. Rows of wire shelving, clear plastic storage drawers, shoe racks and hanging shelf units will help to organize your wife's closet.
- 5). Organize the closet so that all the casual, formal and work clothes are together, each in their own section. Alternately, organize the items so that all the slacks, blouses, skirts, dresses and outerwear are in the same groups. Another wise idea is to group clothing by color.
- 6). Utilize multi-tiered hangers to make the most efficient use of your closet space. It is easy to forget about an item if it is hiding inside a drawer.
