How Do I Pull a Buick Rendezvous Out of the Mud?

    • 1). Attach a rope to back of your Rendezvous. If the Rendezvous has a tow package, tie or loop rope around the tow ball. If the Rendezvous does not have a tow package, you will have to crawl underneath the back bumper and tie the rope to the frame. You can hook to any part of the frame that is accessible, as it is the strongest part of the car.

If the frame or tow hitch is under the water or mud, you are going to have to dig until you can access it. Pulling a vehicle out of the mud tends to be a dirty job and you can expect to get muddy while doing it.

Do not tie the rope to the bumper or axle, as both of these can break when tugged on and cause serious damage. In the event you are completely unable to access the frame or tow hitch, you should call a tow truck. Hooking a rope to, or attempting to pull on, the body of the car can severly damage it.

If you can not access the back of the Rendevous, you can attempt to attach the tow rope to the frame on the front side of the vehicle, however there is more to damage, both physically and mechanically, on the front end. You may want to consider calling a tow truck if you are not experienced at attaching ropes to vehicles or pulling vehicles.

    • 2). Back the 4x4 truck or SUV up to the Rendezvous. The point of the pulling vehicle is to get the stuck vehicle moving with a gentle tug or bump. Except in very severe cases, such as if the car is submerged in mud past the doors, virtually any four wheel drive vehicle equal in size to the Rendezvous or larger should have enough power to get the stuck vehicle out of the mud.

Try and get the pulling vehicle as close as possible while staying on solid ground.

    • 3). Loop or tie the rope to tow ball or tow hitch on truck or SUV. Decide on a signal to give when you are ready and in position for the driver of the truck to pull the Rendezvous out of the mud.

    • 4). The driver of the 4x4 truck or SUV should get into the vehicle and ease ahead until rope is pulled taut between the two vehicles.

    • 5). Get into the Rendezvous and put it in four-wheel drive, if possible. Some models are 4x4, others are not.

After the vehicle is in four-wheel drive, shift the transmission into reverse.

    • 6). Signal to the other driver that you are ready to be pulled out. The other driver should gently give the truck or SUV gas. Ideally, the Rendezvous will ease out of the mud.

If the Rendezvous does not move, the driver of the truck doing the pulling will need to give the truck more gas to increase pulling power.

If the vehicle still does not move, lock the truck or SUV in four-wheel drive and try again.

If you are unable to pull the Rendezvous out of the mud on your own using another truck, you may need to call a tow truck.

    • 7). Continue backing up until all four tires are on solid ground when the Rendezvous begins moving.

Once the Rendezvous is out of the mud and no longer stuck, remove rope from both vehicles and take vehicles out of four-wheel drive.
