- 1). Cut the 1x12 board into two 32-inch pieces. These will be the end pieces of the rack.
- 2). Decide on a pleasing shape for the end pieces (e.g., diamond and a half pattern) and cut with saber saw.
- 3). Use ripsaw to cut five 1x¼ x1x¼ inch rods from the 2x8x20 inch board. These will serve as the rack's crossbars.
- 4). Mark the end pieces for placement of two of the rods near the bottom of the rack. One option is to place them six inches apart and four inches above the floor. This will provide stability to your rack and allow you to use it as a shoe rack when your are not displaying blankets.
- 5). Mark the end pieces for placement of the three remaining rods near the top of the rack. Put them in a triangle shape, with the top rod roughly two inches below the peak of each end piece. The sides of the triangle should be five inches long.
- 6). Using your marks as guides, bore five holes on the outer side of each end piece, using the number 12 adjustable countersink.
- 7). Dab wood glue on the ends of the rods, center them on the holes and insert screws into the outer side of each end piece. Secure to the rods.
- 8). Glue cap buttons over each screw hole and sand all surfaces. Apply varnish and polyurethane to all surfaces, following manufacturer's instructions.
