- 1). Mow the grass, and continue running the Craftsman mower until all of the fuel is gone from the engine.
- 2). Grip the spark plug wire, and pull the cap off the mower's spark plug.
- 3). Tip the mower 90 degrees over onto its side, with the muffler and oil fill dipstick on the bottom. This normally means the mower's side chute is facing up.
- 4). Hold the mower firmly with one hand, and scrape the grass clippings and debris that stick to the bottom of the deck off, using a brush.
- 5). Mix hot, soapy water in a bucket. Dip a rag into the bucket and wipe off any debris and clippings that are stuck to the deck's underside. Dry the deck with a towel, while carefully avoiding the mower blade.
- 6). Tilt the mower back over onto all four wheels. Scrape the clippings and debris away from the top of the deck using the brush. Wipe away any stuck debris using the rag, and dry with the towel. Attach the spark plug wire over the spark plug.
- 7). Repeat this procedure at least once every mowing season, or once after every 25 hours of using the mower.
