The childcare educator is an important component of a child's development and growth. She should work cooperatively with parents to discover the child's strengths as well as weaknesses. The educator provides a supportive environment that allows the child to discover talents, interests and to build upon his skills as a learner. - The daycare teacher helps introduce children to the world of school by stimulating the child's imagination and curiosity. The daycare teacher creates a safe environment where the child can engage in tasks and learn about himself through activity centers. The teacher shows the child how to respect his friends if the child has never spent time with peers his age. The daycare teacher may care for the child from an infant through preschool and teach much of the basic developmental skills.
- A tutor provides extra educational assistance to children. The tutor may teach within the home, a library or another setting. She targets the child's weaknesses and develops lesson plans to support growth. A child feels more confident when working one-on-one. He is able to ask questions and not worry about the ridicule of peers. The tutor does not move to another concept until the child has a thorough understanding of what is taught.
- A nanny is employed by a family to care for babies and young children within the home. Many nannies live with the family and may receive free food and boarding. Other nannies live outside of the home. The nanny should have experience caring for babies. She will often handle all aspects of a baby's care while parents are away. She will transport the baby to doctor visits and play dates as well as feeding and bathing the child.
- The elementary teacher receives a Bachelor,s degree in elementary education. She studies and teaches the standard courses of reading, writing, math, science and social studies. An elementary teacher must be extremely organized when teaching all subjects. She must present each subject in an interesting way for the student to comprehend and retain the material.
- The elementary counselor works with individual children and small groups of children to provide emotional support. The counselor has conversations with the child to give him a safe and encouraging place to talk. It is not the counselor's job to judge the child, but to provide strategies when dealing with problems. The counselor, teachers, and parents should work cooperatively to better serve the well-being of the child.
