Demand for graphic designers continues to increase as the demand for Internet advertising and interactive media increases. However, because competition can be tough, graphic designers with a background in website design and animation will have the best opportunities for jobs and advancements. Being the the third-largest city in Louisiana, Shreveport offers opportunities to earn your graphic arts degree. Each of the three schools in the area take a different approach to graphic design.
- Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) offers an undergraduate degree in graphic design along with a certificate program in computer graphics. The graphic design program focuses on developing basic design and color theory. Seniors graduate with a unique portfolio, which they have the opportunity to show off at the LSUS Graphic Design Senior Portfolio Show. The graphic design program is within the College of Liberal Arts' Department of Fine Arts, Foreign Language and Humanities. Considered the "major thrust" of the LSUS art program, according to the university's website, the graphic design program offers one of the largest and best-equipped graphics labs in the state, and several graduates are internationally known for computer game design.

The college offers a Bachelor of Arts in Communication-New Media, which combines graphic arts with web design, multimedia design and a general understanding of the practices associated with traditional communication concentrations. Centenary is a private, four-year arts and science college and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

centenary.edu - Northwest Louisiana Technical College (LTC) is a technical college offering Associate of Applied Science degrees along with certificates and technical diplomas. The graphics program offers a technical diploma, certificate of technical studies and a TCA (technical competency area). Designed to give students the skills needed to enter the workforce, LTC's main focus is providing skilled employees to businesses and industries. While the college doesn't offer a graphic design program at the Shreveport campus, it does offer a program in graphic communications. Students are required to take classes in subjects ranging from digital prepress and printing to software and sign-making.
