Jan 18, 2010 - Summit Entertainment announced filming has begun on Red, a spy-thriller based on Warren Ellis' DC Comics graphic novel. Robert Schwentke (The Time Traveler's Wife, Flightplan) is helming the movie which will be filming in the Toronto area for nine weeks before heading to New Orleans to finish up. Summit's set an October 22, 2010 release date.
Bruce Willis heads up the cast which includes Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, Ernest Borgnine, Julian McMahon, James Remar and Rebecca Pidgeon.
Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber (Whiteout) wrote the script. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing. The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Florian Ballhaus, editor Thom Noble, production designer Alec Hammond, and costume designer Susan Lyall.
In the press release announcing the start of production Summit's President of Production Erik Feig said, "Red is that classic project with a little bit of something for everyone. We are thrilled to see it come to vivid life with an outstanding cast, incredibly talented director, and top notch producing team."

Red is the story of Frank Moses (Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him.
