Emergency Lights Are Ubiquitous

Portable Emergency lights are carried by lots of people as defense armor against emergencies, or even for everyday uses. Many workplaces are bound by rule to be fitted with Emergency lights all round, especially in passages through which escape and evacuation has to be carried out during emergencies. Besides all that, these lights are routinely, and most conspicuously, used in police cars and other emergency services like ambulance and fire service.

Emergency lights are as old as man, or at least as old as man's invention of fire. Lighted palm frond torches that people swished around so that it will not get extinguished, and will not burn out too fast, were the earliest Emergency lights. It is still used in some parts of the world, due to reasons of economic difficulties, or inaccessibly of battery powered or electrically chargeable lights.

Portable hand held Emergency lights called torches or flashlights are universally used, and almost functions as an electronic detachable appendage of man in many situations. These lights may contain strobe tubes, or will function on halogen technology or LED technology. People carry these Emergency lights in their pockets, or dashboards of their vehicles, or in their suitcases when they travel. Unlighted areas, dimly lit areas, and power breakdowns are routine crosses of human existence and the lights are mandatory requirements during such crises.

Even in fully lighted and functional areas people may require Emergency lights to function. The possibility of retrieval of small things that rolled under a bed, or fell behind a cupboard, or fell down in the car will depend on the brightness of the beam of the lights that can be focused on that area. And this Emergency lights requirement involves lots of situations that are not emergencies. There are those who use their flashlight everyday to open their lock when they return home.

Certain offices, and crowded places like cinema theaters, are bound by rule to be equipped with Emergency lights that will help in evacuating people in case of emergencies. All exit routes of these areas have to be covered by these lights that will be clearly visible even if power has failed as a result of the emergency. These Emergency lights are designed to get everyone out of the building safely and the lights will be required to be functional for anything from one hour to four hours, depending upon the size of the building and the number of people who have to be evacuated.

As Emergency lights are important requirements in an emergency evacuation, lights sporting the 'Exit' sign in red are always available. Emergency lights come in an array of functionalities. There are weather proof ones and water proof ones, personal locator beacons, lights that can be attached to the docks of ships, or those which can be mounted at construction sites. And above all there are the blinking, glittering lights on emergency vehicles, which declare to the world the importance of the service, and the prerogative of the vehicles to use the road as they deem fit.
