- 1). Create a large banner which reads, "Better With Age: Happy 40th Birthday." Unroll a large roll of paper and. Use letter stencils and paint the make the words. Use the favorite colors of the one celebrating his birthday.
- 2). Cut out place mats or entire table coverings made out of thin craft cork. Copy photos of the birthday celebrant. Choose photos from when he was younger as well as more recent photos. Stick sewing needles into the ends of wine corks, leaving a short amount sticking out, to make a big wine cork tack. Press the cork tack into the photos to attach them to the tables.
- 3). Repeat the number 40 wherever you can. For a party with a dance floor, make 40 foot prints that look like they are dancing around the floor. Sprinkle confetti in the shape of the number 40 on the tables and the floor.
- 4). Print out photos of famous people and movie stars who also turn 40 during the year of the party. Search for stars by birthday at IMDB.com (See Resources). Attach the images to a wall, with a photo of the birthday guest in the middle. Make a banner on the top that reads, "In Good Company."
- 5). Create another wall where decorations relating to the person's birth year can be noted. Important events on the person's birthday and during their birth year can be found at the History Website. See the Resources section for a link. Create decorative themes related to those events. For example, use rockets and moons if the person was born in the year when we landed on the moon. Incorporate pop culture icons from the year as well.
