- Bleach hair to a near-white platinum blond with a highlighting kit from your local beauty supply store. Overlay your bleached look with vegetable dye such as Manic Panic for a passionate red, rich royal blue or shocking pink hair color. Strip color from hair by applying peroxide made for hair bleaching to the dyed hair and allowing to sit for 15 minutes before washing out. Re-color with a different vegetable dye. Don't strip color more than once every two weeks or hair breakage is more likely to occur.
- Dark blue emo hair.
Dye your hair an inky black or dark maroon using dye combined with hair peroxide for depth of color and permanence. Mix the dye and peroxide in an applicator bottle with a nozzle tip for easier application. Coat the skin around the hairline and tops of the ears with heavy moisturizer before you apply the color to your hair to prevent staining your skin. - Two-tone emo hair.
Divide your hair into sections. Dye one section a dark color and bleach the other. Add chunky streaks of pink color to stand out against dark hair. Bleach or dye just the tips of your hair. Color a section of bangs a crayon red to highlight your face. Create a shock of purple at the nape of the neck of a short cropped hairstyle. Buy a kit at a beauty supply store that combines bleach and a bright color for easier streak and sectional application. - Try semi-permanent hair color to experiment with different looks. Buy semi- or demi-permanent color at your grocery, drug or beauty supply stores. Apply semi-permanent color to natural hair only, as it will be more permanent on colored or bleached hair as it is more porous.
- Treat your hair with an extra-deep conditioner after coloring to keep it from drying out. Test color on a small patch of skin 24 hours before dying or bleaching hair if you have never colored your hair before to check for allergies or skin sensitivity. Wear old clothes when coloring hair as color will damage cloth.
