What to Do When Stopped For a DUI

While you may not be in the state to act as professionally as you should, when being stopped or arrested for a DUI following a few simple rules could save you a lot! Never argue with a law officer.
First off you are in no state of mind to do so anyways! Telling a cop that they are wrong will not help your case.
Telling them that you will be filing a complaint will only make it worse for you.
Before you say anything ask yourself if it will help your case.
If it doesn't improve your case zip your lips! Everybody needs to stand on their soap box from time to time but being stopped for a DUI is not the time or place to do so! Put your hands where they can see them.
Lets face it, cops have a rough job.
If a cop cannot see your hands they get a little jumpy, they've dealt with a lot of "bad" situations and want to know where your hands are at all time.
Keep your mouth shut.
Many people are nervous and become very chatty, do not be that person.
The more you say the more they have to use against you in court.
If you tell them that you were at the office party and had one too many you are supplying them with information.
Just keep telling yourself to stay calm and it will be ok.
Spit out your gum and extinguish that cigarette! While it could be seen as rude to be doing either while the officer is talking there are further consequences.
Smoking and gum chewing signal an officer to two things.
One is that you are nervous, ie.
guilty.
The other is that you are trying to cover the smell of something.
These tips may not keep you out of the trouble your are in but, it will keep you from making it worse!
