Starting with 80 acres, a family background in farming and an impressive work ethic, brothers Gary and Mike Hogue founded Hogue Cellars in 1982. It was the 19th bonded winery in Washington State at the time. Today Washington boasts over 650 wineries and Hogue Cellars stakes its claim as the third largest winery in the State. Washington wines are on the fast-track for their premium quality and high-value ratios, and Hogue Cellars is leading the pack as an industry pioneer on several fronts (they took the lead on screw cap closure studies and are currently pioneering research for tannin management practices).
Wines to Try from Hogue Cellars:
Hogue Cellars maintains three product tiers for their wines: Hogue: This is their entry level wines that are in the under $10 category and offer solid fruit and a softer palate presence. Check out the '08 Hogue Cellars Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, '07 Merlot or the Late Harvest Riesling.
Genesis: This mid-level wine tier turns up the intensity for only $16 a bottle. Keep an eye out for the Genesis Syrah, the Genesis Unoaked Chardonnay or try the Hogue Cellars Genesis Cab.
Hogue Reserve: This series offers more complexity and depth. Try their Reserve Chardonnay, the Cab and Merlot.
