- Wind and solar jobs require people with a variety of different backgrounds.windmill image by blaine stiger from Fotolia.com
Some of the hottest job opportunities in the foreseeable future involve renewable energy sources, especially in solar and wind. Large-scale government grants fuel these opportunities. Current plans and productions of wind farms and solar power operating projects present needs for several different types of jobs. Consider a position in one of these fields if you have the necessary skills and background. - Understand that manufacturing positions hire mainly people with engineering backgrounds. Plant managers and quality assurance team members or directors oversee the production and quality of wind turbines or solar panels. Roofers, construction workers and electricians often get hired as solar panel installers. Plumbers can install solar hot water heating systems.
- Pursue a career in the continual development of solar and wind energy systems if you have a background in computer science, aerodynamics, atmosphere science or mathematics. Government grants often focus on this area of their funding.
- Consider positions in this field if you have a science background. Areas where wind turbines may be housed need to be studied to see if plants, animals or drinking water could potentially be harmed.
- Investigate wind resource assessment positions if you have a background in meteorology. People in this position study potential locations for a wind farm by examining wind patterns and predicting potential energy produced there on an ongoing basis.
- Apply for positions in construction at solar power generation projects as well as wind farms, especially if you have electrical or construction experience. Welding, pipe-fitting and machinist backgrounds help with jobs at plants being constructed, and in ongoing maintenance at those facilities.
