- 1). Fill a bath tub with water. The water should be warm and about two to three inches high or enough to submerge the pine cones. Add a little disinfectant to the tub for extra cleaning.
- 2). Place the pine cones in the tub and move them back in forth to remove excess dirt. This should also force bugs out of the pine cones.
- 3). Remove the pine cones from the tub and place on some newspaper or thick paper towels. Wait for the pine cones to dry completely before moving on to the next step. Baking the pine cones while they are still wet will make them brittle.
- 4). Heat the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 5). Place the pine cones on a cookie sheet lined with tinfoil. Bake the pine cones for 30 minutes, then remove them and let cool.
- 6). Spray the pine cones with a layer of clear polyurethane. You can now string the pine cones together to make your weather-resistant wreath.
