What You Must Really Know About Teeth Whitening

There are so many things to take into consideration when you are thinking about teeth whitening.
Even though your major aim is to get a shiny smile, it is important to take into account the benefits, effects, time frame, etc, of the process.
Teeth whitening is ideal for lightening and brightening the teeth in order to transform your smile.
They can be stained through smoking, consumption of drinks like coffee and red wine, and so on.
There can also be discoloration around the edges due to grinding and whitening them can provide a noticeable cosmetic improvement.
It is not a permanent improvement but a temporary one that will brighten the enamel of the teeth.
Consequently, treatments must be repeated in order to maintain the brightness.
Some common side effects are sensitive teeth, chemical burns and over-bleaching but they are often temporary.
Furthermore, if you have sensitive teeth, receding or sensitive gums, you should have a discussion with your dentist so that you will be able to know the best approach for you.
Also, if you are allergic to the major bleaching product used for teeth whitening, peroxide, it is advisable to stay away from the process.
You should also avoid overuse of bleaching and whitening agents because they can cause damage to tooth enamel.
There are three major methods of teeth whitening and they are in-office whitening, over-the-counter (OTC) kits as well as professionally dispensed take-home kits.
The in-office whitening is carried out by a dentist in his office and it is the costliest among the three methods but with the best result.
The process may not be ideal for all teeth, for example, brownish and grayish teeth may not bleach properly.
In addition, bonded or tooth-colored fillings may not be lightened by the process.
If you want to get a whitening product, you should try to find the ADA Seal of acceptance so that you will be sure that the product has met the standard of American Dental Association in terms of safety and effectiveness.
Moreover, different time frames exist for teeth whitening.
You can go for a one-hour session with the dentist or use an over-the counter product which can stay on your teeth from 5 to 30 minutes everyday for 7 to 14 days.
Doing it with the dentist saves a lot of time but if can spare some minutes everyday for the process, you can go for the OTC products.
