- 1). Give yourself a reality check. Remember what got you to this point--namely, you're an excellent worker who's worthy of a promotion. Just because your boss wants to look at other candidates doesn't mean you don't deserve a promotion, nor does it mean you won't be promoted. Don't let your boss determine your worth in the workplace.
- 2). Let your boss know what you've been doing on the job. Copy her on some emails that show your best work and your client's response to that work. Make sure she's aware that the person she's looking for is right before her eyes.
- 3). Communicate with your boss. Ask him what's going on with the promotion and how many other candidates he's interviewing. Don't just assume he knows you want to move up; instead, let him know you want the job and that you're qualified for the position.
- 4). Demonstrate that you can do the job. Talk to the person who's holding the job you want and try to do some of the things she does. Taking this step can be the difference between you or another candidate getting the promotion. By showing you can already do the work, it gives your boss proof that you're a good fit for the position. It also helps plant a seed in your boss's mind that you're ready to move up.
