With numerous guests and participants who have signed up for the fast becoming and the biggest event in the history of kitesurfing, put your hands together and mark your calendar for the ultimate Virgin Kitesurfing Armada for this coming 11 and 12 of October, 2014. And this year, it is about to break records than ever before so you better not be wandering around that moment.
The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada is now on its second year celebration and they are sponsored by the biggest names in the business industry, namely Volvo, Mystic and Best Kiteboarding. It will be a weekend kitesurfing festival and they will be held annually at the CBK Beach on the magnificent Hayling Island of the United Kingdom. To give you a little background about the event, it was founded in the year 2013 by a youth charity Snow-Camp. They have strongly supported by the title sponsor, the company Virgin.
According to the Director of the Kitesurfing Armada, Mr. Dan Charlish, stated that the said kitesurfing festival will bring together all professional kitesurfers and their families around the world. The kitesurfing industry and the public will become one for that ultimate one action-packed weekend that features the international kite brands, professional kitesurfers, kite films and live music, drinking and dancing bars, entertainment for all the guests, fundraising activities and record breaking world kitesurfing tricks attempts for all the competitors.
Not only is the Armada trying to reclaim the World Record attempt for the 'Largest Parade of Kitesurfers' that aims to break the current record of 352 kitesurfers on the beach shore and they will complete a mile course or try to beat the 70,000 figure that they have raised last year for three incredible charities namely the Snow-Camp, Virgin Unite and the RNLI. Aside from the spectacular event, one lady is really into the game to show the world that age is just a number and doesn't define the real you.
Judy Tonkinson, a 73 year old kitesurfer, aims to reclaim her crown as the oldest professional kitesurfer at the event and perhaps, in the world. "I hope to break last year's Guinness World Record again, continue to raise money and inspire others to keep kiting into old age.€ she stated during an interview.
A well-known face from Virgin will also be taking part and learning tips from Lewis Crathern (Brighton Pier Jumper and ex British Champion), Team Volvo's Nick Dempsey (Olympic windsurfer and now keen kitesurfer) and Steph Bridge (four times World Kiterace champion). It is going to be a wonderful event that you should attend to.
Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Company owner and an avid kiteboarder lover, have spoken €After the world record-breaking success of the first ever Virgin Kitesurfing Armada, I'm really looking forward to this year's event and seeing hundreds of kitesurfers coming together again to raise funds for good causes." he said in his recent interview.
The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada competition route will take the riders from the Hayling Island, past Chichester Harbour, through Bracklesham Bay and out towards Selsey Point to compete the course. Kitesurfers then turn towards Pagham to land, riding a total of 15 miles downwind, before coaches take them back to the festival. It will be an event of the season. Good luck to all the contestants and may God bless you all.
