Studs

• The currency of the Lego Star Wars world is called "studs," and they determine a player's progression to "Jedi" status in the game. Gray studs are worth ten studs, yellow studs are worth one hundred studs and blue studs are worth a thousand studs. Two of the bonus levels contain purple studs that are worth ten thousand studs each, but since they are collected in bonus levels, they do not count toward your total stud count.
  
  Several factors can have either a positive or negative effect on a player's total studs. The most detrimental of these effects is the character's death, whereupon players will lose four thousand studs if they die from an opponent's blows and two thousand if they fall into an area with no floor. Characters will respawn near the point of their death either way, and their studs will be scattered around for recollection.
  
  One positive aspect of the game that will deplete studs is at the Cantina Bar, which is the central point for game activities outside of playing the levels. At the Cantina, studs can be used to purchase unlocked characters, vehicles and other extras.
  
  

Changing Characters

• Different characters within the Lego Star Wars universe have different abilities, and players can capitalize on those differences to advance through the game. The Cantina will allow players to control any character they have unlocked. The limitation to this feature is in Story mode, where players are limited to those characters in their party. Free Play mode allows players to switch at will between every character they selected before going into Free Play mode.
  
  

Targeting and Combat

• All players will have superb accuracy in the Lego Star Wars world due to the fact the game will automatically select targets whether animate or inanimate. When using the blaster, aiming in the direction of an opponent is sufficient enough for an accurate shot, unless the target moves before the shot hits them. Auto-targeting also applies to melee combat; approaching any target (including allies) and pressing the melee button will strike the opponent so long as they don't move out of range.
  
  Lightsabers are similar in their application to melee combat with a blaster, but lightsabers have the advantage of deflecting incoming enemy fire. They can also be used to deflect incoming fire back at an opponent, by pressing "square" (by default) right before the shot hits the lightsaber.
