- 1). Remove your vacuum hose and spray one end of it with a garden hose. This will rinse away any silverfish clinging to the inside of the hose. Hang the hose outside to air-dry before reattaching it to your vacuum.
- 2). Pour a small amount of white distilled vinegar on a cloth and wipe down the inner chamber that holds the vacuum bag or bagless canister once a week to deter silverfish. Vinegar is a natural organic pesticide that will kill and repel silverfish.
- 3). Empty canister vacuums into a plastic bag and immediately dispose in an outside trash bin. Pour some boiling water into the canister to flush out any silverfish. Once the canister dries, store it in a plastic or resealable bag until next use.
- 4). Dispose non-canister vacuum bags immediately after use in a plastic bag in an outside trash container. This will prevent any silverfish from crawling back out of the vacuum cleaner.
- 5). Routinely clean household dust and debris to effectively control silverfish. Dust and debris are important sources of food for silverfish.
