An integral part of a Steve Urkel costume includes capturing the essence of the Steve Urkel character. For a more authentic costume, you need to speak in a high voice with a nasal tone. Phrases that Jaleel White made popular while portraying Steve Urkel should also be utilized. These phrases include "Did I do that?" and "Look what you did!" Another popular phrase that Urkel repeated ad nauseum was, "Got any cheese?" Urkel was also known to say, "I'm wearin' you down, baby" and would simply say "Whooooaaa mama!" when he saw a woman he found attractive.

Steve Urkel's clothing stood out as much as his personality and antics did.
