I have two large file cabinets in my office that I use every single day.
I have to admit that there are times that I become quite frustrated with them, because as anyone who uses them on a regular basis knows, they can be quite cantankerous! There are a lot of problems that can arise when one has to use file cabinets, but on the other hand, they are quite useful and serve an important purpose.
That is why I will always say that file cabinets are a necessary evil.
The biggest problem that I have with my file cabinets is the fact that the supports that are supposed to keep them in place, don't.
They end up losing their grip and falling back, and then my files are in a position where I cannot really see the tabs unless I lift one individually.
This upsets me to no end, and whenever I think I am going to solve the problem by getting something to prop them up, I will lose one or two files, or gain one.
This throws the whole thing off and there is really no point.
Then there is the fact that they are very bulky.
I have two file cabinets in my office, and they take up a lot of space.
I work as a probation officer, and our offices are small to begin with.
Then there is the fact that there are two people or more in the office every time that I have an appointment, and it makes things really crowded! I have talked this over with my supervisor and unfortunately, there are no bigger offices in our building.
If I did not have to have those two big file cabinets in there, space would not be an issue at all.
One the flip side of that, one of my file cabinets malfunctioned once, and I could not get any of the drawers to close and latch.
I had to remove all of the files from the cabinet and let it be taken out of my office for repairs.
I had to sit my files on a shelf, and whenever a probationer arrived who had a file in that particular cabinet, I had to sort through all of the files to get to his or hers.
It was a pain in the neck, and to make matters worse, that night I had to lock all of the loose files in a vault for confidentiality purposes, which meant several trips back and forth between my office and the front office! That was when I realized that file cabinets are a necessary evil.
