How A Conservatory Adds Value to Your Home

Many home improvements are done purely to maintain the value of a house. When a building falls into disrepair its value will decrease and improvements will need to be made to recoup that value.

Other projects are done for the pleasure and comfort of those living in the home. Whether that is installing a swimming pool or a particular design feature in the home, this type of home improvement project is done for the immediate enjoyment and appreciation of those currently living in the house. Still other projects, like conservatories, are done not only for the instant enjoyment but for the immense value these structures will add to the building.

Why Do Conservatories Add Value When Other Projects Do Not?

Home buyers look for a few basic things, no matter what their specific circumstances are. They look for a home that is roomy, comfortable and bright. Often new windows and doors, as well as spacious designs and neutral colours help to create these features and add value to the property. A conservatory of any shape and design will do the same thing – creating a concentrated area of light and space that is meant for comfort and relaxation.

Many things in your home are subjective to certain tastes. The wall colours, flooring, layout and kitchen décor may be viewed as attractive to some and not to others. But with a garden room, or conservatory, the sunlight and view that is provided is always appealing, no matter what the particular tastes of the buyer or owner. This home addition tends to be much less subjective to different tastes and wider appealing than any other home improvement project of this scale.

Does Every Style of Conservatory Create the Same Amount of Value?

It depends entirely on the layout of your property, but if the garden room you have installed still allows for a decent amount of outdoor space (like lawn and flower beds), and works with the space inside the house, it will add significant value.

Certain styles are seen as more exclusive, such as the traditional Victorian or Edwardian styles that include a domed glass roof and details that add style and flair. As long as the style of conservatory chosen is in keeping with the overall style of your home you can expect that it will be viewed as an attractive and valuable improvement.

Timber conservatories are often highly detailed, but may need more maintenance over time. Others made from uPVC or aluminium offer a low-maintenance solution that will be appealing to all buyers. Double or triple glazing is important, as it adds to the energy efficiency, and a genuine glass roof is a better choice for strength and stability. Consult the manufacturer or supplier on all of the options available to be sure that you choose the optimum model for your home.

With fewer companies able to take on a conservatory installation than putting in simple double glazing, the need to shop around carefully is even greater. Nevertheless, it is still possible to get competitive conservatory quotes from a suitably qualified and experienced local installer.
