How to Get Your Roll Down Hurricane Shutters Ready For Hurricane Season!

Although there may have not been many instances in the past few years of hurricane threats, the importance of keeping your rolling shutters system clean still should be part of your yearly routine.
A common situation among rolling shutter system users is when they are informed by the news that a tropical storm is out in the ocean and wind speeds are picking up to hurricane force winds, they stress and freak out.
You go to close your shutters and have an unpleasant surprise days before the hurricane is suppose to make landfall.
Your rolling shutter system does not want to operate! The reason this can happen is due to not cleaning or maintaining the roll down hurricane shutter system.
Anything mechanical has the potential of not working properly if not maintained.
Here are a few tips which can help you keep them working.
1) Open and close your shutters at least once every 6 months, agitating all moving parts.
2) Clean the slats, tracks and felt for any dirt, salt, debris, obstructions and lubricate all parts to ensure proper operation.
3) The most important step is to make sure there is nothing leaning or underneath a shutter when it is being opened or closed.
If storm bars are required, make sure they are securely in place during adverse weather conditions with high winds.
By following these simple steps, your roll down hurricane shutter system will stay clean and ready for use the next time a storm approaches.
You can also contact a local company prior to the hurricane season to keep your shutters maintenance costs down.
