- 1). Pull the old string out of the machine by grabbing onto the loop and pulling. This will remove the old string, which you can then discard. Do not attempt to reuse old string or use string that is not the same brand as your trimmer.
- 2). Take the replacement string and hold both ends in your hands. Push both ends of the string through the two retention holes located on one side of the trimmer head unit. Keep pushing both ends through the holes until the ends come out of the trimmer holes on both sides of the head.
- 3). Pull the two ends through until there is only a short loop left in the retention holes. Pull one end at a time until both sides are even. Pulling the shorter end first will help even the two ends out. Both ends must be even for the machine to operate properly.
- 4). Pull both ends at the same time until the loop on the retention side goes away and the line is tight against the head of the trimmer. When the line is tight, take a look at the two ends to once again ensure they are equal. If not, adjust the ends until both sides are the same length.
