- 1). Cut a piece of furnace filter to fit into the bottom of the crate. Place the filter in the bottom of the crate and press down firmly.
- 2). Cut pieces of furnace filter to fit into the sides of the crate. Cut the pieces 1/8 inch larger than the measurements and press them into place, making sure there are no gaps. Cut a piece of furnace filter to fit on the top of the crate, so that when pressed into place there are no gaps.
- 3). Pour lava rocks onto the filter placed at the bottom of the crate to a depth of 3 inches. Place your pond filter on top of the lava rocks and cut a hole out of the furnace filter on the side to allow for the pond filter to connect to the pump.
- 4). Fill the rest of the crate with lava rocks and plastic sink scrubbers to within 1 inch of the top of the crate. Place the cut piece of furnace filter over the top of the crate, sealing it well so there are no gaps or leaks.
- 5). Connect the pump to your filter. Place the crate into your pond and allow all the air bubbles to work out. Turn the pump on.
