- 1). Put on garden gloves to prevent blisters while planting the autumn sage.
- 2). Pick a location to plant the autumn sage. Look for a location with high sun. The flowers will also attract hummingbirds and butterflies which are after the sage's nectar so you may want to plant it near a window or porch to enjoy the wildlife.
- 3). Dig a hole with your shovel where you wish to plant the sage.
- 4). Pour a little potting soil in the bottom of the hole you have dug. Place your peat moss in the hole after the first layer of potting soil. Pour more potting soil over the peat moss and pat it down with your hands.
- 5). Place the autumn sage plant upright in the hole. Hold it in place while you pour more potting soil into the hole to ground level. Pack the soil down with your hands.
- 6). Water the plant until it pools around the base of the plant. Check the soil once a week for moisture. If the soil becomes dry to the touch and there is no rain predicted in your weather forecast, you may water the plant again.
