Helpful Insurance Advice for First-time Motorcyclists

Motorcycle insurance used to cost a fortune, but with motorcycles having become more popular over the years, and with the number of insurance providers increasing, prices have fallen considerably.

There are three basic types of cover:

Third Party - this is the minimum level of insurance required to drive on Britain's roads. It is the cheapest as it only covers damage done to other vehicles by your motorcycle.

Third Party, Fire and Theft - with this type of insurance, you will receive the standard third party cover, but will also be entitled to compensation for any damage caused to your bike by fire or if your vehicle is stolen.

Fully Comprehensive - this will cover you for damage done to third party vehicle but will also cover damage done to your own vehicle in an accident, fire or if it is stolen.

When you are considering motorcycle insurance for the first time, remember that the internet is your friend when it comes to finding the best deal. It does not just find you the cheapest motor bikes for sale, but also the most affordable insurance. Most insurers will offer discounts and cheaper rates to online customers. Spend time searching through a variety of insurers, do not just settle for the first seemingly good deal you come across - chances are you will be able to better it somewhere else. Shop around in a variety of insurers including mainstream insurers, smaller insurers and specialist brokers.

First-time motorcycle insurance is never going to be cheap. When you see that perfect motorbike for sale, keep in mind the additional costs of insurance and ask yourself if you will be able to afford it. If not, there are several things you should consider to help cut costs. Partaking in advanced motorcycle courses will not only improve your confidence on the roads but can also lead to reduced premiums. You would also do well to look out for insurers who offer discounted rates to those who have fully protected their vehicles in as many ways possible.
