Choosing Between a Manual or Electric Toothbrush

So what's it going to be: a manual or electric toothbrush? With so many choices available on the market, it can be difficult to determine which one is best for you.
A lot of the choice between a manual or electric toothbrush comes down to personal preference, but it's helpful to know the benefits of each one before you make a decision.
Benefits of a Manual: · Less expensive · Textured bristles in a variety of sizes · Tongue cleaner pads · Different angles for the head of the brush · Different types of handles · Gum stimulators Benefits of an Electric: · Different courses of energy · Easier to use for people who have difficulty with grip · Pressure sensors to help you avoid brushing too hard · Automated reminders to replace the heads · Multiple modes for people with sensitive teeth Learning How to Brush Teeth Properly is Easy Learning how to brush teeth properly isn't as difficult as most people think.
In fact, for many people the problem lies in being too overzealous - and that can happen with a manual or electric toothbrush.
So here are some helpful teeth brushing tips that you should follow regardless of what kind of brush you use: 1.
Brush the right amount of times per day.
Most dental professionals recommend brushing your teeth two or three times a day: fewer times than that can lead to plaque and tartar build up, while too much more can harm your gums and erode enamel more quickly.
2.
Brush for the right length of time.
You should brush your teeth for two to three minutes, to ensure that you hit every part of your mouth - including where your teeth meet your tongue.
Are electric toothbrushes better for this? They may be if you have arthritis.
Otherwise, a manual or electric toothbrush will do the trick just fine.
3.
Floss every day.
Floss between meals, too, if you can.
4.
Change that brush.
Whether you use a manual or electric toothbrush, make sure you change the brush or head regularly.
The bristle will wear out, and you won't get the same benefits.
You also want to keep your toothbrush dry: wet bristles can build up bacteria.
Make sure to shake off any excess water when you're finished, to allow the bristles to dry more quickly.
5.
Change up your routine.
Don't start in the same place every time; it can lead you to get "lazy" when it comes to brushing.
6.
Rinse out your mouth AND your brush.
By rinsing, you get rid of loose food particles and excess toothpaste.
And by rinsing your toothbrush, you're getting rid of any lingering particles or bacteria, too.
By following teeth brushing tips like these, you'll set yourself up with a healthy mouth for life.
Are Electric Toothbrushes Better or Not? So are electric toothbrushes better or not? If you know how to brush your teeth properly, one isn't better than the other.
But there are some mouths than may benefit more from a power toothbrush - like small ones.
Younger children may be more inclined to brush their teeth with an electric brush because the lower settings can tickle a bit.
They may also like pushing the buttons for the different modes of brushing.
Because an electric toothbrush can be a bit more fun, it can encourage kids to learn how to brush their teeth properly, a valuable lesson for them throughout their lives.
