- 1). Wet the leather. Apply water using a damp sponge to the skin, or smooth side, of the belt. The water will turn the color of the smooth side to a dark brown rather than tan. Dampen the leather until it is wet but not dripping with water.
- 2). Lay the belt on a hard surface. Place a sheet of plywood between the belt and any furniture to ensure you do not damage the furniture.
- 3). Mark your belt hole spaces with a pencil. You will begin stamping just above the belt holes and work your way across the entire belt.
- 4). Mark your belt with a pencil, as needed, so you know where to place each stamp.
- 1). Place the first stamp on the belt in the desired location.
- 2). Hit the stamp with a mallet, and continue to strike the top of the stamp to indent the leather. The number of times you have to hit the top of the stamp depends on how large the stamp is and how deep you want the stamp imprinted.
- 3). Place each additional stamp in place, one at a time, and strike the top of the stamp until the desired image is on the belt.
- 4). Treat the leather belt with a leather sealer once all the stamping is completed. Rub the leather sealer on with a dry cloth, and work it into the leather. Allow the sealer to dry before punching the holes for your belt.
