Make sure the electrical outlet is closed and your work area is dry and clean.
You should have your tools for mounting the outdoor lanterns at the ready so you can work on the installation without a hitch.
Prepare the tools you are going to use.
Always check the light you are buying to make sure there are no additional materials needed.
If there are any, ask the seller where you can get the additional installation materials.
It is also important to go over the local codes of outdoor lighting installation in your area.
There are certain codes stipulated for every town or city so make sure you know all about them before proceeding with this project.
Make sure you are using the best materials as well.
It should also have the seal of approval of the Underwriters Laboratory.
Opt for weatherproof boxes and receptacles.
This is to ensure that they will not corrode or get damaged by harsh weather.
Wall lighting fixtures require surface mounted switches.
Do not let the switches be exposed to harsh weather.
Always have the switches encased in waterproof boxes.
Before trying to install your lighting fixtures, make sure the main electrical source has been cut off.
Now get a marker so you can mark the location of the wall lights.
You will also need a drill, fixture boxes and three quarters of an inch of wood.
Drill the wood to the exterior of your wall.
Get the pancake fixture boxes and remove the knockouts found in the centre of it.
Install it over the wood and make sure it sticks on with the help of screws.
Test the switch first.
Get an electrical tester and let it touch the screw of one side of the switch.
Do the same to the other one.
It should register wattage.
Remove the switch from the switch box.
Use about 6 inches of a 12 gauge black wire and then plait it.
Now get the wire cable from the light and install it to the switch.
The installation of outdoor wall lights can be tedious for many people especially when they are not really handy with it.
So after buying the perfect outdoor lanterns to be installed on walls, you might want to consult an expert when it comes to their proper installation.
It is better to be safe than sorry.

If you have bought outdoor lights with sensors, they might also require the help of experts when installing.
