A timber gazebo is usually octagonal in shape but you can also make and purchase square gazebo plans.
It is not only easier to build a square gazebo compared to an octagonal one, but it is also less time-consuming and requires lesser money.
It can be used for holding parties, keeping gardening tools, bird watching etc.
It also protects you against the forces of nature.
Making this structure is easy and so is making a plan for it.
Let's see how to make it.
Flooring: Choose a well-lit and a suitable area for your square structure.
Remember a suitable place is extremely important for a gazebo or it won't serve any purpose.
Level a rough square patch of land.
Dig away the mounds and fill in the holes and remove cracks if any.
Now mix a basic mixture of concrete following the instructions as given on the bag.
Spread this concrete evenly on the cleaned area.
It should be well leveled and shouldn't have a glide.
Let it dry properly.
Make holes: Next we need to make the holes in the prepared flooring.
Now measure the land properly and draw a perfect square on the land.
Mark the corner properly because you have to dig 2 feet deep holes here.
Form a structure: The next step as per the square gazebo plans is setting up the posts.
You need four exact poles for this.
They should be around 84" in height.
These should be preferably of cured wood.
Now bury these one by one in the holes created previously.
Secure them with the concrete mixture.
Let these dry for a day or two till the concrete is set.
The top: Check whether the concrete has dried properly and whether the posts are fixed firmly in the ground.
You need to trim away any extra lengths of poles so as to make them equal.
Now we need to make a mantle for our gazebo.
You need fairly wide poles for the mantle.
These should preferably be made of the same material of your poles.
The length of these posts is equal to that of the length of each side of your square plus 1 feet.
Now from the outside of the structure, nail each of the poles properly to the top.
Secure them with metal strips.
Your mantle is ready.
Get another set of 4 equal length posts.
Their length can be around the half of the poles used in the structure.
Now fix each of these poles to the corners of your square mantle.
These should be fixed properly.
These posts should have a center for the basic top.
It should also be square or cube like in shape and each of your posts should be connected to this cube.
This is the hub of your gazebo.
Ceiling: To form the basic ceiling for your square gazebo, you can either use simple plywood or use the plank technique.
Use four equal lengths of wooden planks and then fix each of these to the top of each window.
Now just below these fix a larger plank than the one above.
Below this place another larger plank.
Continue this process till your windows are covered properly.
You'll have a square gazebo ready.
