- 1). Know the basic requirements. There are a few needs that have to be met and while they're basic requirements, you must meet them to become a real estate agent in Texas. You must be at least 18 years old and a citizen of the United States. You can be a lawfully admitted alien as well but you must be a Texas resident to even apply to become a real estate agent in Texas. If you have met all of these requirements you will need to be fingerprinted as well.
- 2). Know the educational requirements. To become a real estate agent in Texas there are basic instructive necessities that also have to be met before you apply for a license. These are mostly core classes for a total of 210 classroom hours in Principles of Real Estate, Laws of Agency, Law of Contracts, an elective class in real estate and 4 semesters of classes in either core classes or electives in real estate. You must then have these educational credits evaluated by submitting an evaluation form and paying the nominal fee.
- 3). File an application. Once your evaluation has been met you will now need to turn in your application that can be done online or by mail. These go to the Texas Real Estate Commission and have non-refundable fees. You cannot turn in your application without paying the fees or it will be refused.
- 4). Take the test. Once you have all of the above completed, you will then be given a test. First, you will be provided information on how to study for the test, materials to do your studying and when and how to take the test. This test has to be passed within a six month time period.
- 5). Get sponsored. You cannot practice real estate as a licensed real estate sales representative without getting sponsored by a Texas real estate broker that has a license that is active.
