- 1). Loosen the low E string until it is completely slack. You can use a string winder to do the loosening if one is available. A string winder is a tool that fits on the tuning keys so that you don't have to use your fingers.
- 2). Remove the string from the tuning peg. If the string is totally slack, you should be able to unwind it and remove it without difficulty. Be careful with the tip of the string because it can be very sharp.
- 3). Remove the string from the bridge. Depending on the type of your guitar's bridge, this can be done in different ways. If you have a bridge in which the strings feed through the body, all you have to do is carefully thread them through the bridge and out the back of the guitar.
- 4). Repeat steps one through three for the other five strings on your guitar. You can replace the strings one at a time, but this is not necessary.
