- 1). Combine flour, baking soda, sugar and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- 2). Beat the eggs with the milk until the two liquids are blended together.
- 3). Add the egg and milk mixture to the dry ingredients. Also add the shortening.
- 4). Beat the mixture of all of the ingredients until smooth.
- 5). Bake the batter in a waffle iron until the waffles are the desired consistency.
- 1). Dissolve the yeast in a large mixing bowl using the warm water.
- 2). Add sugar to the yeast, and let the mixture sit for five minutes.
- 3). Mix in the milk, one tbsp. of the melted butter and the beaten eggs. Then add the flour and the salt. Beat the mixture until there are no chunks.
- 4). Cover the mixing bowl, and allow at least 45 minutes for the dough to rise. It should double in size.
- 5). Brush the pan and the cookie cutters with oil.
- 6). Place the cookie cutters on the pan. Turn the heat to medium.
- 7). Pour three tbsp. of batter into each cookie cutter, and allow the dough to cook for seven minutes on average. The crumpets are done when bubbles on the top begin to pop and the dough becomes dry.
- 8). Remove the cookie cutters and continue to bake the crumpets, flipping occasionally. When the crumpets reach the desired texture, remove them from the pan and place them on a serving dish. Repeat the last two steps until all the dough has been cooked.
