- Craft stores carry craft foam and foam sun visors that you can use to fashion a Lady Liberty crown. Cut green craft foam into seven triangles to create the points of the crown. Turn a green visor upside down. Attach the triangles to the upturned visor using hot glue. Let the glue dry for three to five minutes before wearing the completed crown.
- Use aluminum foil from your kitchen to make a simple Statue of Liberty crown. Start with a strip of foil long enough to wrap around your head one time, plus an extra 2 inches for overlapping. Place the foil flat on your work surface. Fold the bottom edge up 2 inches to create the headband. Fold the top edge down until you meet the top edge of the headband. The size of the fold depends on the width of the aluminum foil. For a 10-inch wide roll of foil, the second fold would be 3 inches. Use scissors to cut six spikes into the top fold of the foil by cutting out triangular shapes. Wrap the headband around your head and secure the overlapping ends in the back using tape. Angle the spikes of the crown outward at a 45-degree angle to finish the crown.
- Use aluminum foil and Paper Mache for a different crown method. Start by creating the headband using a strip of aluminum foil long enough to wrap around your head once with a 2-inch overlap. Lay the foil flat on your work surface. Fold it to create a 2-inch wide headband, smoothing the foil out. Bend the headband into a circle, overlapping the ends and hot gluing them in place. Create six spikes by crumpling strips of aluminum foil into 3-inch long cones with 1-inch bases. Attach the spikes to the top edge of the crown using hot glue. Let the glue dry for three to five minutes. Then cover the entire structure in Paper Mache.
To Paper Mache, tear strips of newspaper into 1-by-6-inch strips. Dip the strips into liquid starch or your favorite homemade Paper Mache glue. Place the strips over the aluminum foil crown, overlapping the strips as you go. Let it dry overnight and paint it green with acrylic paints. Let the paints dry for three to four hours before wearing. - A heavy-duty paper plate has the right shape to create a crown for the Statue of Liberty. Cut out and discard the inside of the paper plate, leaving the outer 2 inches of the plate. Also, cut off the bottom 3 inches of the plate to give you a place to put your head. Cut out 9-by-3-inch triangles from pieces of poster board to create the spikes. Attach the spikes to the edge of the paper plate using a stapler. Paint the entire crown using green spray paint or acrylic paint. Allow it to dry for three to five hours before using.
