- 1). Roll the unit to a flat area. Remove the cord leading to the spark plug to disengage the engine.
- 2). Lower the mower deck to the lowest position.
- 3). Remove the bolts holding the deck guard on top of the mower deck using a socket wrench. The deck guard is usually made of plastic. Pull off the deck guard.
- 4). Note the location of the mower belt and how it is wrapped around the pulleys underneath the mower. Take a picture if you can. Pull on the idler pulley, located underneath the mower motor between the front pulley and the pulleys on the deck, and remove the belt from the deck.
- 5). Remove the pins holding the mower deck in place. Pull the deck out from under the unit. Deck removal is different for every machine. Reference your owner's manual for instructions.
- 6). Grab the stuck pulley with a strap wrench to hold it in place. Remove the nut holding the pulley. Remove the pulley by pulling down on it.
- 7). Insert the new pulley and tighten down the nut. Reassemble the unit and test.
