Don"t Be Ignorant Regarding Prostate Cancer

The prostate is a small walnut-shaped organ found exclusively in men.
It makes up part of the male reproductory system and wraps around the urethra.
In the United States alone, statistics show that over 200,000 men develop prostate cancer and about 30,000 die of the disease.
These statistics are second only to lung cancer.
Prostate cancer develops when abnormal growth cells begin spread.
If left unchecked, the cancer can develop to other parts of the body.
Prostate cancer is one of the leading cancers in men.
Nevertheless, doctors and medical researchers have continued to work on a diagnosis and a cure.
There have been optimistic results as researchers annouce that they are extremely close to a vaccine though there is still work to be done towards this end.
Researchers so far have continued to examine different viruses and compounds in the quest for a cure.
There are currently different lines of research being pursued and scientists have attempted to isolate a few viruses namely those that are connected with leukemia in mice.
Cancer can be accelerated by various viruses for example, the human papilloma virus, or hpv, has been linked to cervical cancer.
Prostate cancer has caused a lot of concern in men.
This has led many to rush to be tested even when it hasn't been very necessary.
But when the symptoms are detected, treatment may take the form of injections injected through the abdominal wal.
This can be conduced monthly, three-monthly or six-monthly and can be uncomfortable.
generally gives rise to a minimal amount of discomfort.
Treatment also means preparing for doctors' visits.
During the visits, there are initial injections given to the patient.
Then there are a course of tablets called anti-androgens which can also be injected or ingested by mouth.
One of the most common ways to treat prostate cancer is through hormones (hormone treatment).
Hormone treatment has also been accused of having side effects.
One of the side effects is sexual dysfunction, specifically, erectile.
This can also be accompanied by lack of libido.
Many believe hormone deficiency is as a result of low testerone levels so treatment can also include an infusion of testerone.
Let's look at the side effects of hormone treatment for prostate cancer:
  • Erectile dysfunctions
  • Lack of energy (chronic fatigue)
  • Lack of sexual desire
  • Hot flashes
  • Enlargement of the breast area
Don't be ignorant regarding prostate cancer.
If detected early, the condition can be treated.
