- 1). Comb your hair along its natural parts. The way you part your hair ultimately depends on the design you wish to achieve. For example, for cornrows that go straight back halfway across your head, you must make a long, horizontal part in your hair.
- 2). Pick up some of the hair where you want the cornrow to be. The amount of hair you hold depends on how thick you want your cornrows.
- 3). Separate the hair you are holding into three even strands. Loop the first strand over the middle strand.
- 4). Pick up a small amount of hair near your braid. Make sure it is hair you are not already holding. This part is essential to fusing the hair close to your scalp. Place the new hair along with the middle strand you are already holding.
- 5). Loop the third strand over the middle strand, and add some nearby hair to the middle strand again.
- 6). Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have finished braiding the first cornrow. Repeat the process with the rest of your cornrows.
