- 1). There are estimates of how much energy is used just to heat your water for laundry. Switch to a cold water wash and save yourself up to $100 per year.
- 2). Select a cold water laundry detergent if you want. Tide Coldwater, for example, can be used on any garments that are considered machine washable.
- 3). Set the washer temperature to cold.
- 4). Wash your clothes as you always do, seperating and using pre-wash treatments as needed.
- 5). Follow the instructions on the amount to use in a load of laundry.
- 6). Unless you are washing something extrememly dirty, like baby diapers or grease stains, your clothes will still get clean in a cold water wash.
- 7). Just switch to warm when you can. Switching your temperature setting from hot to warm can cut a load's energy use in half.
