The Hazelden Foundation, which pioneered the model of care for alcoholism and addiction treatment over 50 years ago, launched a new, expanded Web site online at www.hazelden.org offering visitors thousands of pages of searchable information about addiction and includes the internet's largest recovery bookstore.
"The site has an updated design featuring more visuals and new content, all with better ease of navigation," said Linda H.
Peterson, Webmaster. Numerous in-depth articles help identify the signs of alcoholism or other drug addiction, and offer ways for family or friends to help someone who has a problem.
"Addiction is a sensitive topic, and the Internet has proven to be a very effective way to provide people with accurate and useful information not just about the disease, butalso about how to get help for those who need it, what to expect during treatment, and how to support a loved one's recovery," Peterson added.
The Web site's new organizational format allows faster and more in-depth perusals of addiction information, as well as access to Hazelden's many services and products. "Whether you want to take a look inside a patient room at one of our residential locations, join our national public policy efforts, find a certain publication, attend an alumni or training event, enroll in our graduate school, or make a designated gift, the Hazelden Foundation Web site is there for you," said Linda Peterson. The new online Hazelden newsroom also gives journalists quick and easy access to Hazelden's experts.
As the premier publisher of recovery-related materials, Hazelden's online bookstore is also more user friendly than ever, featuring publications that span recovery, addiction treatment, criminal justice and prevention. Hazelden's Butler Center for Research, offers numerous one-page fact sheets, and longer reports on various addiction-related topics that are based on the latest research findings. Now accessible as pdf files, the Research Updates and all other research publications are even more useful for educators and policymakers alike.
Thousands of people in recovery from addiction and alcoholism also turn to the Hazelden Web site on a daily basis. "Our most popular feature is the Thought for the Day daily meditation," said Peterson. Online visitors are now offered the choice of reading an uplifting message from six of Hazelden's classic daily meditation books -- including Twenty-four Hours a Day and Melody Beattie's Language of Letting Go. Many have also signed up to receive a free daily inspirational email from the site or to send an iCare Card or eMedallion to someone they care about.
