- 1). Loosen the soil at the planting site to a depth of 8 to 12 inches. Add a slow-release fertilizer at the rate recommended on the package instructions and mix well with the loosened soil.
- 2). Dig a hole that is the same depth and 2 to 3 inches wider than the plant's root system. Plant the impatiens at the same level they were previously growing and water until the soil feels very moist, but not soggy.
- 3). Add a 3-inch layer of organic mulch around the plants to prevent weeds and retain moisture.
- 4). Water Blondie impatiens any time the top inch of soil feels dry. Check the soil daily during hot summer weather, as the plants wilt quickly if allowed to dry out.
