It's official, General Motors announced that one version of the new Colorado pickup truck will built and sold in the United States.
Developed by General Motors in Brazil, the new Colorado truck will launch in Thailand this month and eventually be sold in over 60 markets worldwide, with design tweaks to suit the varying needs of truck drivers in specific locations.
Thailand's Colorado will be available as a 2WD or 4WD truck equipped with a new 2.5L or 2.8L turbo-diesel engine.
Chevy will offer the Thailand Colorado in regular, extended-cab and crew cab body styles.
General Motors hasn't released information about engine choices for U.S. trucks, and I know that many potential buyers hope to see a diesel in the mix. The current Colorado pickup truck will be built in Shreveport, Louisiana, through the 2012 model year, so it will probably be awhile before we know too much about features and options for the U.S. version of the global truck.
There's no word yet about whether or not the new trucks will be re-badged and changed slightly to create a brand new GMC Sierra, but that move seems likely.
