- 1). Click on "Start" and go to "Search" or "Run."
- 2). Type "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 -- Modern Warfare\Main" without the quotes and press "Enter."
- 3). Navigate to the file called "Dedicated.CFG" and double click to open. This file opens in WordPad and contains all of the settings for your server. The default server settings are fine to get you started. You can change the "Server Name," and add a "Server Password."
To add a password navigate down to "set sv_privatePassword " and insert your desired password within the quotes. Keep in mind that this password is case sensitive and users whom you wish to join will need the exact password to enter your server.
Note: If you do not have a file called "Dedicated.CFG" you will need to either create one from scratch or download a sample copy from the Internet. - 4). Right-Click on the "iw3mp.exe" file within the "Main" folder and select "Send to," then "Desktop (create shortcut)."
- 5). Navigate to the new shortcut on your desktop, right-click on it and select "Rename." Change the name to "Dedicated Server" without the quotes.
- 6). Right-Click on the icon again and select "Properties." Next, click on the "Shortcut" tab. Click inside the box called "Target."
Erase everything inside the "Target" box. Then "Copy and Paste" the following into the box:
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +exec dedicated.cfg +map_rotate - 7). Click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the dialog.
- 8). Double-click on the shortcut to start the server. Give your IP address and password to the people you would like to play with and enjoy.
