- 1). Read the beginning time for a particular day as noted in the box labeled "In" or "Start." This designation may vary from time clock devices. For instance, if the "In" box for the column associated with Monday says "8:30" then the time clocked in should be read as 8:30am.
- 2). Read the time noted in the "Out" or "Stop" box under the Monday section of the time card. Depending on the time clock model, the time will be in either 24-hour mode or in standard AM and PM mode. For instance, if the time says either "5:30pm" or "17:30" then the finish time for that day is 5:30pm.
- 3). Count the hours between the start and stop times as noted in steps 1 and 2. Continuing with the example above, if you clock in at 8:30am and clocked out at 5:30pm, then the total hours worked for Monday would be 9 hours. Repeat this process for all days for which you worked.
- 4). Count up the total hours of each day worked. As an example, if your timecard displays a two weeks pay period and you worked 9 hours a day every day, Monday through Friday, then you would have a total of 90 hours worked for that period.
