• PPSV has several side effects, though an adverse reaction to alcohol is not listed as a side effect, or a result of receiving the injection. Common side effects of the shot include mild pain and redness at the site of the injection and are seen in about half the patients who receive the shot, notes the CDC.
  
  

Considerations

• Less than 1 percent of people who receive the PPSV vaccine experience more severe symptoms including fever, severe local reaction or muscle aches, while even fewer suffer severe reactions to the shot. Signs of a severe reaction include a high fever, behavioral changes, difficulty breathing, hives, pale skin, a fast heart beat, dizziness and wheezing, among other symptoms.
  
  

Warning

• While having a adverse reaction to alcohol is not a listed reaction to PPSV, persons experiencing any negative symptoms they believe to be a reaction to the vaccine should contact their doctor. The CDC suggests that, after having a reaction to the shot, patients talk to a doctor about filing a report with the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System to document the reaction.
