DIY Home Theater Speaker Stands

    • 1). Set one of the PVC pipes in the center of one of the 12-inch-by-12-inch boards. Trace the circumference of the pipe onto the board with the marker. Repeat this step for the other 12-inch-by-12-inch board and the two 10-inch-by-10-inch boards.

    • 2). Place one of the 12-inch-by-12-inch boards on the drill press and clamp it in place. Insert a drill bit that corresponds to the diameter of the threaded rod you purchased.

    • 3). Turn on the drill press and drill a hole all the way through the exact center of the board.

    • 4). Replace the drill bit with a 1-inch drill bit. Drill a hole approximately 3/4 of the way through the board.

    • 5). Repeat the drilling process with each of the three other boards.

    • 6). Set one of the 12-inch-by-12-inch boards on a table with the one inch sunken hole facing down. Pass one end of one of the threaded rods through the hole. Turn the board on its side with the rod still in place. Slide a washer and a nut onto the rod where it protrudes from the underside of the board. Hand-tighten the nut. Repeat this process with the other 12-inch-by-12-inch board.

    • 7). Set one of the 12-inch-by-12-inch boards flat so that the threaded rod is vertical. Thread another washer and nut onto the rod. Tighten the nut in place. Repeat this process with the other rod and board assembly.

    • 8). Apply silicone to the bottom edge of one of the PVC pipes. Slide the PVC pipe over the rod with the silicone edge down. Line the PVC up so that the threaded pipe is in the exact center. Push the PVC pipe onto the wooden base and hold it tight for 30 seconds. Repeat this process with the other PVC pipe and wooden base.

    • 9). Fill one of the PVC pipes with sand until it reaches the top. Place one of the 10-inch-by-10-inch boards on top with the counter-sunk hole facing up and the rod protruding from the top. Screw on a washer and a nut. Pick up the entire assembly and tamp it firmly on the ground a few times to help the sand settle. Remove the top board. Fill the PVC with more sand. Repeat this process with the other stand assembly.

Apply silicone to the top edges of both PVC pipes. Set the top boards on the stand assemblies with the counter-sunk holes facing up as in the previous step. Screw on a washer and nut, then tighten them in place with a socket.

Turn each assembly on its side. Tighten the nuts on the bottom of each base with the socket.
