A few weeks ago I was having dinner with a friend of mine when he asked how much people made with eBooks.
This is a question that I get asked a lot, and that's very tricky to answer accurately.
On the one hand you have people like me who make thousands per month.
Then on the other hand you have people who claim they're in the eBook publishing business, but who don't actually publish anything.
Often these people will tell anyone who will listen that you can't make any money with electronic books.
Ha! Well, these foolish people are not making any money because they're not actually doing anything.
Here's the reality, at least as far as what I've seen.
People who are just starting out and who make a conscious effort to actually advertise their publication usually start making some money right away.
The secret is to actually promote the electronic book that you've published.
Listen, you don't have to be smart or have gone to school or anything like that to realize that if you don't get the word out about something, nobody is going to know it even exists.
It's not enough to sit there and nod your head, you need to be willing to do a little bit of promotion to get the word out.
No, you're not going to have to stand by the highway holding a sign.
It's easier than that, but the point I'm trying to really drive home is that you have to be willing to do something.
So how much do people make with eBooks? I've noticed that it tends to be directly related to how much effort they put into promotion.
The more you promote, the more you earn.
Now there's a lot more to it than that, but I want you to come away from this article with a strong understanding that you cannot expect to make any money unless you're willing to actually get the word out about your materials.
Make sense?
