- 1). Go to the GPSies web site (see Resources).
- 2). Click on the red "Find coordinates" tab near the top center of the screen and enter the house address information: street address and the city, state or Zip. The country is defaulted to the United States.
- 3). Click the "Search" button to have the site calculate the house location.
- 4). View the results in the white box or bubble that appears on the screen for the address.
- 1). Go to the National Map Viewer from the USGS (see Resources).
- 2). Click the "Find Place" option on the left side of the screen. Click the "Address" link and then enter the Street Address, City, State and Zip Code. Click the "Zoom to Address" button when complete.
- 3). Click the "Elevation" option on the left side of the screen.
- 4). Click an area of the map, such as the name of the road or street where the house is located. This will display the Elevation Lookup Results.
- 1). Go to the Google Earth download page (see Resources) if you have not already downloaded Google Earth. If you have downloaded Google Earth, open it and skip to Step 4.
- 2). Click on the "Agree and Download" button to download the free version of Google Earth.
- 3). Click the "Save File" button and then select a location to download the setup file, such as your desktop. Double-click the setup file to install the program. Double-click on the Google Earth icon on the desktop to open the program.
- 4). Type in a location or address in the field that is in the Fly To tab. Click the "Begin Search" button to have the program locate the location or address.
- 5). Hold your mouse over the square box on the screen that indicates the location or address. Look at the bottom of the window to see the elevation ("elev").
You can use the controls on the right of the aerial view to zoom in almost to ground level for many locations. You can then click on various points within the location to see how the elevation may vary from point to point.
