The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular in the Hollywood Studios Theme park at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida is one of several Disney attractions that the audience gets a chance to participate in.
However, when the show plays to an audience of ~2000 people, how can you stand out and be selected? Here are a few tips that I've used to get selected three years in a row.
Once you determine which show you want to attend (by picking up a Times Guide, near the maps at the park entrance), the rest is relatively simple.
If you know which day you will be in Hollywood Studios, be sure to wear a brightly colored, or unusually patterned shirt so you will be easily noticed.
My favorite shirt is a bright red hawaiian print.
First, make sure you arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled show time.
The audience starts to enter the theater ~15 minutes before the show starts.
When you enter you will have the option of sitting in the left, center or right sections.
It does not matter where you sit since 3 audience participants are selected from each section.
Second, select a row as close to the front as possible, but try to get an empty row that you can move all the way to the end (on the aisle), closest to the center of the theater.
This is because as the theater starts to fill up Disney Cast Members will ask everyone move down their row towards the center of the theater, filling in all empty spaces.
By already being on the center end, you will not have to move, and you will still be seated on an aisle, giving you more room to stand up, jump and be noticed.
Third, when the 'casting director' asks if anyone wants to participate in the show, be sure to immediately jump up, wave your arms, and yell (Over Here!).
Most people will only raise their hands.
Since you're sitting on an aisle, move into it as you jump so you will stand out and be more easily spotted.
The casting director will select three 'actors' from each section, so don't worry if she selects from another section first, they always pick from each section.
If she does move to another section first, don't sit down, remain standing so you will the first person she sees when she looks back to your section.
Finally, after your'e selected, have fun.
Whether you are selected to laugh, scream or pose (and after you sign the waiver and get into wardrobe, 1 lucky volunteer will be chosen to have their own 'death' scene), enjoy the really up close view as you help the professional stunt men bring the Cairo Market to life.
I've enjoyed it every year, and it's also a great memory for my kids, getting to see daddy act silly on stage.
