- 1). Finish your bachelor's degree. Although you might be able to teach at some volunteer GED preparation workshops with only a high school diploma, in order to get a full-time job teaching the GED, you are going to need a bachelor's degree. Your best bet is to get a bachelor's degree in education, though any four-year degree will certify you to teach the GED online.

Your state's department of education will give you a full list of criteria and how to apply for a certificate. Start by going to the U.S. Department of Education site; here, you will find links to specific state sites, where you can get a full list of criteria for your particular state.
- 5). Get some teaching experience. You can do this by applying for a teaching job with a school if you are certified. Even if your state doesn't require certification and you're not certified, you can volunteer in a school, or teach at an after-school program, a day care, or in any other situation that will allows you to teach. Teaching experience is not necessary, but it will help you in the application process.
- 6). Apply for online GED teaching jobs. You can find these jobs at many different places. They might be advertised in the local paper, in a national paper, or on a job board. Check with churches, schools, colleges, and community organizations in your town, where someone might be able to point you in the right direction.
- 7). Take your material from a GED course guide or review book from a reputable publisher such as Kaplan's, a GED practice exam, or one of the many test review sites.
- 8). Begin your own online GED school as an entrepreneurial adventure. You'll need a website and hosting equipment to do so. You'll need to plan a GED course, teach specific subjects, and give and grade practice exams.
- 9). Communicate with your students online, through a website, email, or chat room. Use the information that you have found in a GED practice test, review book, or website, and give them practice exams that you can grade and use to chart their progress.
